Championing Nautilus members at maritime roundtable

9 December 2025

Nautilus general secretary Mark Dickinson represented members at a high-level industry roundtable with new UK maritime minister Keir Mather ahead of Christmas.

The discussion focused on creating opportunities for UK seafarers and addressing key concerns raised by our membership.

Mr Dickinson said: 'We explored the minister's interest in developing coastal shipping and pushed the concept of cabotage. We also highlighted the need for more support for maritime training and the importance of sectoral collective bargaining to build on the mandatory Seafarers' Charter.'

The minister, who has deep maritime roots with both grandfathers serving in the Merchant Navy, showed strong interest in these priorities and in Nautilus’s international work championing seafarers at the International Labour Organization, added Mr Dickinson.
