Free wellness at sea training for elearning site-testers

26 October 2017

A maritime welfare charity is offering free training for seafarers who volunteer to test a pilot version of an online Wellness at Sea coaching programme.

Launched by the Sailors' Society in January 2015, Wellness at Sea is a holistic programme designed to improve the onboard wellbeing of seafarers, with a focus on social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual issues.

The charity is seeking 200 seafaring volunteers to test the prototype online Wellness at Sea coaching programme – and in return they will be able to benefit from the Society's training package, which until now was only available for classroom-based teaching.

Wellness at Sea programme manager Johan Smith said: 'We want to provide the best possible product for our users, and the insights of our volunteer testers will be invaluable in shaping the final version of the online Wellness at Sea course. We are very grateful to any seafarers or companies who would like to join our group of pilot site testers.'

The course will take between 14 and 20 hours to complete and support will be available to users throughout their learning experience. Some content has been adapted to suit online delivery, but the framework, philosophy and outcomes are the same as the classroom-based coaching. Participants will also receive a course certificate on completion of all six modules.

If you or your company are interested in participating in the testing programme, contact Johan Smith at wellness@sailors-society.org.
