Help shape better food standards at sea: take part in the Food4Seafarers survey

9 October 2025

Good food isn't just a comfort at sea – it's essential for health, morale, and performance. Yet many seafarers still face poor nutrition, limited access to fresh food, and rising costs that shipowners struggle to meet. That's why the World Maritime University (WMU), with support from the ITF Seafarers' Trust, has launched the Food4Seafarers Research Project – and they want to hear from you.

This global study aims to improve catering standards and nutrition for seafarers, especially those working on vessels with fewer than ten crew, where a qualified cook isn't required. Through anonymous surveys and interviews, the project will gather real-world insights to help shape future policy and best practices.

Your input could make a real difference. Whether you're currently at sea or ashore, your experience matters. The survey is quick, confidential, and open now.

Nautilus is encouraging members to give their insights before the survey closes on 15 November 2025 to ensure every seafarer gets the nutrition they deserve.
