IMO bravery award nominations open for 2024

19 January 2024

Nominations for the International Maritime Organization’s annual Exceptional Bravery at Sea award are now open.

The purpose of the award is to provide a unique, international recognition of individuals or groups of individuals who, at risk to their own life, perform acts of exceptional bravery in attempting to save life at sea or in attempting to prevent or mitigate damage to the marine environment.

The act of bravery recognized in the 2024 awards must have occurred in the period from 1 March 2023 to 29 February 2024.

Nominations may only be made by IMO Member States, intergovernmental organisations, and/or non-governmental international organisations which have consultative status with the IMO. As an NGO with consultative status with the IMO, the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) is able to make nominations for this award, and Nautilus International can suggest candidates to the ITF.

Members with a proposal for nomination can email Nautilus head of international relations Danny McGowan at dmcgowan@nautilusint.org, no later than 25 March 2024.
