Nautilus delivers London Living Wage for members with UBTC

Members with Uber Boat by Thames Clippers (UBTC) have received a welcome pay increase of around 14% for some to help them during the cost-of-living crisis.

This follows sustained negotiations between UBTC and industrial organisers from Nautilus International, which is the recognised trade union for all staff at the operator.

Members unanimously voted to accept the company's offer to match the London Living Wage (LLW). This represents an uplift of circa 14% for some of the lowest-paid members working at UBTC. There will be a 6% uplift in salary for grades already above the LLW rate. UBTC has also committed to continuing to pay long service awards and increase pension contributions.

This is on top of an earlier agreement to award a hardship payment of £125 gross from August to December 2022 to help members deal with high inflation.

Nautilus national organiser Steve Doran said: 'The Union has worked with the established operational Partnership at Work (PAW) committee to deliver the London Living Wage for the lowest paid colleagues at UBTC. We have also delivered the interim cost-of-living payment helping colleagues at present across all operational roles and, with member and PAW support, delivered the minimum 6% uplift in salaries for grades already above the LLW rates of pay.

'Further to the uplift in take home pay, we also continue to offer certificate protection, and have negotiated increases in pension contributions, safeguarding members retirement interests and making UBTC a more desirable place to build a long-term career.

'We know that issues persist, especially regarding work-life balance for members who live outside the capital, but we have commitments from the company to continue discussions on these matters. We look forward to further productive engagement with the company, and we will work hard to deliver for all those we represent.'
