Nautilus visits UKSA to support future yacht crew

18 March 2026

Nautilus International has continued its longstanding partnership with the UK Sailing Academy (UKSA) with a winter visit to meet cadets beginning their careers in the yacht sector.

Since 2017, UKSA has given free Nautilus membership to students on its Yachtmaster cadetship for their first year, ensuring they have access to professional advice and support from the start of their careers.

During the visit, Nautilus yacht organiser Laura Hesketh delivered a presentation outlining the role of the Union and how it supports members at sea. Cadets also learned about practical tools available to them, including the digital sea service testimonial system used to record and verify sea time.

She also met the students individually to answer their questions about working life in the industry.

Nautilus also attended the academy's graduation ceremony, where the Union sponsors the annual Most Growth and Improved award. This year the prize was presented to UKSA cadet Charlie Streeten in recognition of his development during the programme.

Yacht organiser Laura Hesketh said the trip was a valuable opportunity to connect with future members.

'It was a really good visit and hopefully useful for the cadets. It's important they know the Union is there to support them from the very beginning.'
