Residents at the Nautilus Welfare Fund’s Mariners’ Park complex are taking part in a trial aimed at strengthening the welfare of retired seafarers, highlighting the continued importance of community-led support in later life.
Mariners’ Park has welcomed a new trial drop-in resource from the UK Citizens Advice service for seafarers, the Seafarers Advice and Information Line (SAIL).
Held monthly, SAIL clinics can provide support to residents needing general advice and guidance, as well as help filling in benefit assessment forms and signposting to other relevant welfare services for retired seafarers and their dependants. SAIL staff are knowledgeable about all Merchant Navy sectors including ferry, cruise, yacht and RFA, and even the fishing fleet.
These events form part of a broader commitment by the Nautilus Welfare Fund charity to providing more than just accommodation. Mariners’ Park aims to create a vibrant retirement community where former seafarers can remain connected, active and valued.

Mariners' Park supports retired and needy seafarers and their dependants who are aged over 55. The park offers a full range of independent living properties; a bespoke supportive living accommodation building for those with care needs; and a 36-bed care home that provides 24/7 care, nursing, dementia and palliative support.
Accommodation is available now for those maritime professionals that have served in the Merchant Navy across all sectors, including maritime pilots and crew on large yachts, as well as those who have served in the Royal Navy.
