As the world wide web celebrates its 30th anniversary, retired seafarers living at Nautilus Mariners' Park have been learning how to get the most out of their mobiles, tablet and other technology updates through new technology clinics.

In February residents and staff enjoyed a technology presentation from the Chester branch of electronics retailer Currys PC World.

'We are trying hard as a business to get everyone comfortable with technology and understand how it can help them with some of the issues they may have and make life that little bit easier,' said Peter Harrison of Currys PC World.

Residents were also able to bring their own equipment with them for some troubleshooting help.

Staff from the technology giant gave demonstrations on how to get the most out of mobile phones and tablets. Residents also learnt about voice to text technology - for those who are hearing impaired - and text to voice technology - for those who are visually impaired - as well as how to download and read books on a Kindle, and how to voice activate light bulbs and speakers.

The park retirement complex, which is administered by the Nautilus Welfare Fund charity (link to NWF) plans to hold further technology clinics in the future when the PC World team will be back to support residents with any issues they may have with their existing and new products.
