Take the ETF survey on violence and harassment against women transport workers

27 August 2025

Nautilus is encouraging female members to take part in a European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) survey aimed at assessing the prevalence of violence and harassment against female transport workers, including maritime professionals.

A rise in violence against female transport workers has been a disturbing trend that intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic and continues to affect workers today. Women in transport are especially impacted, facing disproportionate levels of abuse in their daily work. To better understand these realities and to push for real change, the ETF Women’s Committee has launched a new survey: Violence and harassment against women transport workers. The aim is to collect testimonies directly from women working in all areas of the transport sector.

The survey, available at the ETF website, is available in various languages including English and Dutch and should be completed before 1 September 2025.

Nautilus members are also invited to take part in a discussion on the outcomes of the survey and further strategies for tackling violence in the workplace, which is being held as part of a seminar in Amsterdam on Tuesday 30 September 2025. The ETF seminar, How to fight violence against women transport workers, will be addressed by keynote speaker Vera Gheno from the University of Florence, who will talk about the various dimensions of what constitutes violence.

Nautilus may cover travel and accommodation costs for European members in its Netherlands or Swiss branches (currently excludes UK). Those who are interested in getting financial help should contact infoch@nautilusint.org or infonl@nautilusint.org
