Warsash cadet Molvipa (Molly) Takhiansok has scooped the 2023 Bevis Minter Award for showing resilience and overcoming challenges during her cadetship.
Sponsored by Princess Cruises during her training, the now recently qualified officer struggled to complete her cadetship due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as overcoming other personal challenges.
Molly received the award at the 2023 Maritime UK Awards in Hull, which she attended with her mother Nitsa Raymond Molvipa. She thanked Nautilus International and urged other cadets who might be questioning their ability to complete the course to persevere. 'Without Nautilus’s help I would not be receiving this award today,' Molly said.
Nautilus International is a multi-year sponsor of the Bevis Minter Award at Maritime UK. Nautilus director of communications, campaigns and digital Helen Kelly said: 'I have no doubt Molly will go on to achieve great success in her career as a maritime professional. I look forward to watching her go from strength to strength.'
Three cadets were shortlisted for the 2023 award including Shaun Foley from Glasgow College and Courtney Stanton from Fleetwood Nautical Campus. Each of the finalists, to be eligible, had demonstrated to the judges that they had overcome significant challenges during their training and had demonstrated both resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.
The cadets were invited to meet with Maritime UK patron Princess Anne before the black-tie event.
