Nautilus achieves significant pay uplift for members with Caledonian MacBrayne

4 November 2022

Nautilus International has achieved a 7.2% pay uplift for members working at Scottish ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) during the latest round of negotiations with the company.

The uplift applies to all ranks and grades from 1 October 2022.

CalMac has also committed to continue discussions regarding other issues raised by members. These include the company's bereavement policy and sickness entitlement. The ongoing talks will also cover hours of work and rest, as members are aware of the need to ensure safe operations by adequately dealing with stress and fatigue onboard.

Micky Smyth, head of industrial at Nautilus International, said: 'The Union went into these negotiations aiming to achieve a substantial pay award, to reflect the impact on our members' salaries of the current cost of living crisis.

'The company has come under pressure during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, so we are pleased to inform our members that in spite of this pressure the company has agreed to a significant uplift, because it recognises the contribution of its workers. It is essential that all employers recognise that they have a responsibility to support their hardworking maritime professionals in these difficult times.

'We look forward to continuing this productive relationship with CalMac in the future.'
