Nautilus congratulates trustee director Guy Platten on OBE honour

16 June 2026

Nautilus International has extended its warmest congratulations to one of its trustee directors, Guy Platten, who has been awarded Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King's Birthday Honours, which were announced on 12 June 2026.

The honour recognises Mr Platten's services to the maritime sector over many years. Widely respected across the industry, he is known not only for his current role with Nautilus, but also for his leadership as former secretary general of the International Chamber of Shipping.

A long-standing full member of Nautilus, Mr Platten's OBE is seen as a fitting acknowledgement of his dedication to advancing the interests of seafarers and the wider maritime profession. His contribution extends beyond his professional roles, including serving as chair of The Mission to Seafarers and previously as a trustee of The Seafarers' Charity. He is one of four Nautilus trustee directors.

Responding to the award, Mr Platten said he was 'deeply humbled and grateful,' adding that the recognition reflects the support he has received throughout his career. He also paid tribute to seafarers, describing pride in an industry marked by individuals who work 'day in and day out under extraordinary circumstances.'

Nautilus general secretary Sascha Meijer said the Union was proud to see one of its trustee directors honoured at such a high level, noting that the award reflects positively on both the maritime sector and Nautilus itself.
