Maritime UK is launching the first UK Pride in Maritime Day at a webinar on Monday 28 February 2022.
The industry body's live-streamed event will run from 11:00 to 13:00 GMT. It marks LGBT+ History Month in February and is also being launched as part of Maritime UK's Diversity in Maritime Programme.
Nautilus official Danny McGowan is chair of the Maritime UK Pride in Maritime Network. He commented: 'I will be pleased to welcome industry leaders, LGBT+ people and their allies to this important event. Companies across the UK and throughout the maritime industry have been working hard to make the industry welcoming to LGBT+ people. We look forward to sharing best practice on what we have done so far and to discuss how we can develop this work into the future.'
Maritime UK head of diversity and operations Chrissie Clarke added: 'Maritime UK is committed to ensuring the sector is welcoming to the LGBT+ community. We are delighted to be launching Pride in Maritime Day, in collaboration with the Diversity in Maritime Taskforce and Pride in Maritime Network. The launch will involve a live streamed panel event with members of our Pride in Maritime Network discussing progress to date, lived experiences and how we can break down barriers faced by our LGBT+ employees. We are grateful to ABP for hosting the event and we encourage everyone to register for the event.'
Interested maritime professionals can register on the Maritime UK website.
